Title: Characters that should be in the next Smash Bros
Post by: Yoko Oh-no! on March 10, 2008, 05:37:16 PM
I realize I'm a faggot for posting this.

Character (Series Icon)

Gray Fox (Metal Gear Solid)
Isaac (Golden Sun)
Jill (Drill Dozer)
Knuckle Joe (Kirby)
Little Mac (Super Punch-Out!)
Lyn (Fire Emblem)
Ray (Custom Robo)
Samurai Goroh (F-Zero)
Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth)
Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Stafy (Stafy)
Waluigi (Wario)
Toon Zelda/Toon Shiek/Toon Tetra (Zelda)
Dr. Mario (Mario)
Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong)
Roy (Fire Emblem)
Mewtwo (Pokemon
Plusle & Minun (Pokemon)
Toad (Mario)
Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Island)
Ridley (Metroid)
Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Knuckles (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Andy (Advance Wars)
Krystal (Star Fox)
Megaman (Megaman)
Zero (Megaman)

Dr. Mario should be an outfit for Mario, and Toon Link and Toon Zelda should be outfits for Link and Zelda.  That'd be 60 characters.

Also TP style Tetra as a third form for Zelda and give ganondorf 2 extra "fighting styles".  He switches by taunting.  Sword taunt gives him Ike/Marth clone moves, spinning taunt gives him Zelda moves with control similar to Mewtwo with Peach's float, and fist taunt switches him back to Captain Falcon style.

Normal Ridley boss could just be turned into meta ridley and make it just a 2 part boss fight and also playable ridley wouldn't be quite so big.

Yeah I think that'd be cool.

I'd like to see Ray from Custom Robo appear. I have the Gamecube game and he looks awesome. And yes, I know he's an assist trophy.

Also, Elite Beat Agents. Beating up everyone with DANCE!

I know.  Most of the assist trophies shoulda been playable anyways.  They feel like something that should be reserved for weirdos that don't exactly fight, like excite bike sprite and tingle.

And the EBA.

Ike Dedede PokemonTrainer Lucas and Olimar all felt like secret characters they shoulda been secret.

Also it sucked how you just unlock everyone in adventure mode.  SSE shoulda been an unlockable after beating classic with every character and the unlockables that would have made it seem more like a reward instead of the first thing you do to get everything out of the way.

Also all the melee and 64 stages shoulda been there.  And the items are too hard to distinguish what they are sometimes.

Was anyone else suprised to see Rou... err.. I mean Barbara from that DS Music game?

I didn't think Nintendo remebered she existed, espcially after it was canceled in America. I was looking forward to it too, Rouge Recolors plus Guitar Hero DS = PWNAGE!

I would have prefered to see her playable since she'd make an awesome token female character. The only problem is Americans would mistake her for Rouge, hell even I did at first when "Jam With The Band" was still coming out in America, but hey, if Sakurai wants to throw in a character just to get people to stop demanding women, Barbara and Krystal FTW! Wouldn't happen since even seeing mention that she exists was highly suprising.

Finally, 9-Volt and Ashley should have seriously been playable.

I wouldn't be "deeply disappointed" if they decided not to use third party characters next time, but if they do then Bomberman better friggin' be in.

Fix'd If they use third parties again I wanna see Bomberman, I don't want Mega Man to touch Smash Bros., but I'm dying to see Wario and Bomberman have a re-match.

Final Smash    Bigger Bomb

I would kinda like to see Krystal in the next one.  But really, I just want to see a character who can fight with a staff.  I've never really seen any fighting games in which characters fight effectively with a staff.

Pit comes close, but with my fond memories of Donatello from TMNT Tournament Fighters (there's a game I haven't played in ages), I want to see a full-fledged staff weapon.

Megaman (with X as an unlockable?) would be awesome, as would be Zero (with his MMZ series form unlockable?).  Bass and Protoman would be pretty cool too.

I would absolutely kill to see the playable FF1 character classes worked in somehow.  They're attacks would all be themed around their class-specific traits.

And, of course, Tom Nook. (that is a joke)

Tom Nook (not a joke)
Title: Re: Characters that should be in the next Smash Bros
Post by: Josie on March 12, 2008, 02:05:20 AM
I'm ambivalent on Krystal.  On the one hand, I agree with Mr. Hemri that she could be an interesting fighter and they could probably give her some good moves.  On the other hand I hate her character in every way and want her to die die die.  Clearly the best option is to turn Fox into "Star Fox Adventures" Fox so he uses the staff instead.

(As a side note, Keith, have you tried the Soul Calibur series?  The character Kilik uses a staff.)

I fully support Tom Nook 100% as a playable character.

Also I just noticed Sora from Kingdom Hearts hasn't been mentioned.  I wouldn't really care if he was left out, and for third parties I'd prefer Megaman over him (Megaman just seems like he'd deserve it more), but I really feel like Sora'd fit in fairly well.

Actually, Keith, Bomberman MIGHT work...
One would probably have to work in the Bomb Throw, Bomb Kick and the Line Bomb in there somehow, perhaps the Bomb Timer too, but I haven't a clue what to do about a recovery move.

Still, with all those explosions going on around him, I feel he might become a very broken character if he did make it in somehow.

Yeah, it's probably possible, but if they wind up using a Hudson character as a third party character, I'd imagine Bonk would be a smarter choice than Bomberman. He's not as popular, but it'd be really easy to give him sensible moves.

I have to say, I wouldn't mind Pac-Man as a third party character. He could have some moves from the Pac-Man World games even.

Pac-Man would have been pretty cool. And feasible, considering Namco & Nintendo's other joint ventures.

...his Final Smash would totally be a power pellet

I dunno, H, I just remembered he had a move called Bomb Jump in at least one game.  I honestly have no clue what it's actually like, or if it's consistent across games or anything.

The Power Pellet should totally act the way it did in Pac-Man 2.

If memory serves the Bomb Jump was just the ability to bounce a bomb off of another bomb.... but seriously.... None of you played Wario Blast when you were young? Although, I also played Pac-Man 2 when I was young and DAMN that's tempting, but wouldn't Super Pac-Man just be a ripoff of Wario-Man if he were in Brawl.

Very fast character, amazing recovery, but very light.

Tornado Biplane as final smash.

Phoenix Wright.  I've even worked out how he works.  Phoenix fights with evidence.  Instead of a portrait, he has a little icon of his currently selected piece of evidence next to his percentage.  At the start of the match, it displays Maya's Magatama, which means he has no evidence at all.

B: Present.  Nick attacks using whatever piece of evidence he's currently holding in his left hand.  For the Magatama this is a punch.
->B: Press.  Nick shouts "Hold It!" and makes a "slamming the desk" motion.  This stuns enemies and does a bit of damage as well.
^B: Air Tank.  Nick rides into the air, trailing behind Larry's air tank.  After a second he loses his grip and starts falling, but the air tank keeps going until it hits a surface or leaves the stage.
vB: Court Record.  Swaps out Nick's current piece of evidence for a new one, randomly selected from various options (and never the same one he already has), such as:
-Autopsy report (works similiarly to the paper fan; not that it matters, but this one in particular is for Bruce Goodman)
-The Thinker clock
-DL-6 pistol
-Kurain Urn (thrown; naturally, it shatters on impact)
-Gatewater Hotel knife
-MC Bomber CD (thrown; does minimal damage, but scrambles affected character's controls briefly)
-Can't remember the name, the weird sword from 3-5

Final Smash: Psyche-Lock
Nick shouts "Take That!"  The background inverts colors and fades to black, while chains launch into the screen.  Any enemies hit by the chains are dragged into the Psyche-Locks that appear.  Player can now mash buttons to damage everyone inside.  After a while, they shatter (doing one final hit of damage that can potentially KO), the chains depart, "Unlock Successful" appears onscreen, and Nick recovers by 50%.  Locks can be damaged, potentially making them break early, by characters inside pressing the same button as Nick.

One taunt consists of Phoenix pointing and shouting "Objection!"

One of his alternate color schemes gives him Furio Tigre's suit.

Series symbol is the attorney's badge.

Associated assist trophies include the Steel Samurai, both von Karmas, Detective Gumshoe, and the Blue Badger.

While I'm at it, a while back I worked out a moveset for Mega Man.  (Need to come up with two more taunts for him, though.)

His color scheme from the neck down changes to a color scheme for whatever weapon you have selected (Mega Buster color scheme is whatever you picked for him).  His helmet doesn't change this way, though, so that you can tell Mega Men apart.

Taunt: Pose like in MM7 intro stage.
LR Shield: Leaf Shield.
Z Shield: Junk Shield.
A combo: Generic punch, generic kick, Slash Claw.
Running A: Charge Kick.
Forward A: That weird buster-punch Protoman does in Power Fighters. Smaller, though.
Forward Smash: Flame Sword.
Upward A: Rolling Cutter (moves over a small arc while spinning).
Upward Smash: Wire Adapter (with, obviously, reduced range).
Downward A: Ring Boomerang (but not boomerang anymore, just smacking them with the ring)
Downward Smash: Silver Tomahawk (not thrown, just held).
Aerial A: Power Stone (range reduced, speed increased).
Aerial Down+A: Top Spin.
Aerial Up+A: That fire punch thing he does in Power Fighters.
Aerial Forward+A: Shadow Blade (range reduced slightly).
Aerial Back+A: Knight Crush (swung backward, across body--effective range matches Shadow Blade).
B: Mega Buster. Or not--see Down+B.
Forward+B: Crash Bomb. Moves on an arc, like in Power Battle. Latches onto enemies and explodes a second later, or latches onto surfaces and acts like a motion sensor bomb.
Up+B: Rush Jet. Go up at a steep angle. Knocks enemies aside but doesn't do a lot of damage unless they manage to get hit by the flames.
Down+B: Switch weapon. Initially this does nothing. After you've KOed at least one opponent (or certain stage enemies), you can switch between the Mega Buster and the B moves of characters you've defeated. They go in player order, including Mega Man himself (but you don't automatically switch weapons or anything). Suit changes color to indicate selected weapon.
Grab: Super Arm. (In color only, really.)
Forward Throw: Super Arm, moreso.
Upward Throw: Thunder Beam right into opponent, shooting them up.
Downward Throw: Throw opponent down on ground and use Star Crash on top of them. Stars all slam into them.
Backward Throw: Fire a Remote Mine onto opponent and simultaneously throw.
Final Smash: Yellow Devil. Mega Man teleports out, and the Yellow Devil forms (pieces flying in from the left or right, whichever's closer) and becomes controllable for some time. After time expires (or Yellow Devil takes some insane amount of damage to the eye), "melts" and "dries up" and Mega Man teleports back in.

I guess his icon would be his helmet--every series except original has an obvious symbol.

People would probably hate me for saying this: But I think playable Shadow might be cool.   But only if Tails and Knuckles are already in there.  If it comes down to a choice, I would rather have the original trio than any of the newer characters.

Shadow was one of my favorite characters in Sonic Battle, though.  His chaos attacks were pretty neat, and he made for a nice in between spot between Sonic and Knuckles for the speed/strength ratio.

Might as well toss in my ideas. I haven't gotten time to check on who picked out what, but, quite some time ago I made a list of third-party "icons" that I think might fit.

I would think a classic 2D fighter character should get in. I'd imagine either Ryu or Terry Bogard would be most likely, but I kinda also want an SNK boss. People would surely crap their pants if Geese or Rugal showed up.

There are quite a few potential Capcom reps other than Ryu. Megaman surely. Arthur, Strider, Captain Commando... well, yeah, there's a lot to go with there.

I'd like to have a Belmont be in the next Smash - although I don't want to dump Snake. That would let me assume 2 third-party reps, each from a different key franchise, per third-party. (I personally am not a fan of thorwing in an excess amount of Sonic characters Thank You Very Much.) On the note of whatever Sega might have for a second third-party rep, I'd go with something retro and off-the-wall... like Alex Kidd. It'd be better than using anything they currently crap on.

A Dragon Quest character would make Brawl uber epic. I'd go with Loto/Edrick here, as I'd believe he toi be the most iconic non-Slime.

If there's a Square rep, I'd go with Moogle, who has enough of a balance of repping and actual fighting skill. Second choice would be Black MAge.

Stretching things a bit, I'd like Ryu Hayabusa. He'd work both as a tecmo rep and a rep for a 3D fighter (Dead or Alive) that would be a psuedo-"foil" for the 2D fighter person/s.

Hudson's probably already been discussed here. Heh.

After that the third-parties start getting a bit obscure. EA has no original IP that I consider Brawl-worthy yet. Ubisoft could use Rayman or the Prince of Persia. I'd like to see some more retro characters like Riki-Kunio or the Double Dragons but I don't know what ownership disputes they might have. Basically, third parrties start becoming more of a stretch after the ones I already mentioned.

Now, for first-party reps, I'd first go with characters who I thought should've been in Brawl in the first place. Namely:

- Takamaru (Nazo no Murasamejo)
- Little Mac (Punch-Out!!)
- Some Pro Wrestling character (Star Man would get confusing here, so I'd probably go with Fighter Hayabusa, King Slender or The Amazon.)
- Advance Wars character (Probably either Andy from the GBA series, or Will from Days of Ruin.)
- One more Metroid character (Even though the best pick became a Subspace boss, the Prime Hunters and an actual "Dark Samus/Metroid Prime" are fair game.)
- One more Fire Emblem character (although chances are it'd be Roy's return, more or less)
- Some more girls. People've request Lip from Panel De Pon, yes?
- Sukapon. (Joy Mech Fight)
- And maybe as a far stretch, the BS-X mascot. (Except he'd probably be a Link clone?... Damn..)

I said B moves, but I imagine he'd get slightly different attacks from some characters.  Kirby's up+B, Dedede's down+B, Yoshi's up+B.  The real challenge is figuring out what to do with Sonic.

Personally I don't think that dumping a bunch of third party characters into this willy-nilly would be a good thing...

Also, Megaman could copy Kirby's Inhale ability without the ability to copy powers.

It'd be wacky if, as a result of the success of Brawl, Nintendo decides to put Sakurai in charge of a Smash Bros. game entirely comprised of third party characters.

-Burger King (Those Burger King games, Final Smash: Flamebroil Everything)

-Megaman (Megaman, Final Smash: Rush Suit)

-Zero (Megaman, Final Smash: Doesn't Lose Lives For A While)

-General Custer (General Custer's Revenge, Final Smash: (censored))

-Samurai Goroh (F-Zero, Final Smash: Weaker car, but you can aim it)

-Knuckles (Sonic, Final Smash: Dig and come up under something)

-Pitfall Guy (Pitfall, Final Smash: Swing over something and crocodiles come out)

-Mecha Sonic (Sonic, basically Sonic but slower and stronger)

-Bill Clinton (NBA Jam Tournament Edition, Final Smash: Play Saxophone, immobilizing enemies)

-Ryu (Street Fighter, Final Smash: Shinkuu Hadoken)

I think there's only one logical choice for choosing the next Nintendo character to be integrated into the new Super Smash Bros.... And that character is, of course, Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, from the SNES game "Home Improvement".

Ohhhhhhh yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhh. His logo would probably be a variation of this house.

Taunts: Tim poses (much like in the above picture) and says one of the following colorful catchphrases:

"ARROOOOOooOOOooOO??!"
That weird grunting thing he always does on the show.
"MORE POWER!!"
"It's Tool Time, bitch."

Standard?: The nailgun. The nails don't shoot straight ahead for some reason; they kinda fly off in different directions. I don't know what that's about. Rumor has it, though, that there's a blowtorch/flamethrower weapon in the SNES game, although I've yet to see it.

Side Standard?: Apparently, the game features some sort of magical chainsaw that shoot magical laser beams. That would rule, but I can't find a picture of it. :( In it's place, there's this hammer thing. It has decent reach and strength, but it's not as good as Dedede's.

Down Attack: The jackhammer. If Tim's in the air and you use this attack, he'll come hurtling down to the ground, jackhammering all in his path.

This thing is for grabbing onto ledges, or grabbing onto other characters to initiate throws (like Scorpion's "GET OVER HERE"  thing).

Are you ready for this? Because it's time for the Tool Man's FINAL SMASH:
Once Tim gets the Smash Ball, he faces the player (you) and shouts, "WHAT TIME IS IT?!" to which the generic audience voice replies, "IT'S TOOL TIME!". Out of nowhere, this crazy ass contraption shows up (imagine a riding lawnmower with deadly saw blades and rocket launchers and a jet engine). Tim jumps on, shouts "MORE POWER!!!" and rides the contraption across the stage, demolishing all in his path. Tim also takes a small amount of damage after using his final smash (Tim's contraptions always backfire).

Tim's Stage: The set of Home Improvement. It would be a small stage, kind of like Green Hill or the Bridge, where you can't go too far on either side. There would be random machinery exploding and haywire power tools throughout.

ASSIST TROPHY: AL BORLAND
Sadly, the only thing I can think of is Al popping out and saying, "I DON'T THINK SO, TIM." (regardless of whether or not Tim is on the stage). Maybe he can render all items worthless for a few seconds? Or maybe he can pull a Nintendogs and cover up the screen with plaid. I don't know.

There is a flamethrower. I used it back in the first stage, long ago when I rented this game.

I still yell out in frustration at the "instruction manual." REAL MEN DON'T NEED INSTRUCTIONS!

Fuck you, Taylor. Seriously.

Johnathan Coultan
Slash
Dr. Mario
Vampire Wario
Paper Mario
Paper Sonic
Paper Shadow
Super Shadow
Hyper Shadow
Omega Shenron
Super Busty Rouge
Misty

Nintendog

In all seriousness

Earthbound Pokey With Heavily Armed Future Pokey as a final smash
Dr. Mario

Espcially if Fox's taunt had moar Barrel Roll, and the N64 voice actors. But I'll let it slide if I can finally play a Pit Vs. Mother Brain fight in a Smash Bros. game.

Giygas would be hardcore. No one would even be able to comprehend his (her?) attacks. Not to mention not having a physical body.

Giygas would be a stage, if anything.

a badass stage
(I guess an AT would work too?)

That's actually really cool. The Giygas Stage theme would be something like this:

EDIT: Honestly, I'd be cool with a theme like this, too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-TRpVvvsazc&feature=related

I already posted my ridiculously in-depth Mega Man description, but what if Capcom wants to go with a more recent version?

MegaMan.exe
Symbol should be obvious--MegaMan's little circle-icon.  Victory theme has several options; I'd go with the "liberation mission completed" fanfare from BN5.
Taunt 1: "Get item" pose.
Taunt 2: Pop up a little NaviCust window.
Taunt 3: (don't know yet)
Probably have special taunts available on his stage, like Snake and Fox.
A moves would be mostly punches, kicks, etc., with some battle chip attacks mixed in (the swords, for instance) for the stronger ones.
B: Mega Buster.
Up+B: Area Grab.  Three red panels appear above MegaMan. The bottom panel flashes.  If unoccupied, it turns blue and MegaMan quickly moves up onto it, and the process immediately repeats with the next panel; if there's someone "on" that panel, that person takes damage and the move ends.  So it's good for recovery or for attacking, but not for both at once.
Forward+B: Mini Bomb.  Really shouldn't be hard to figure out.
Down+B: Shockwave (a.k.a. "that thing Mettaurs do where they swing a pickaxe").  Only produces a shockwave if you hit the ground, though the pickaxe itself does some damage too.
Final Smash: I've actually got two different ideas in mind:
Dark MegaMan: MegaMan turns black, invincible, and considerably stronger, and gains the ability to teleport around the field.  There are two drawbacks: you lose control entirely while the Final Smash is in effect, and for a while afterward your percentage steadily increases (similar to the flower effect).  So, pretty much just like in the games.
Style Change: MegaMan starts glowing and picks up the attributes of the four BN2/3 styles (Guts's big hand on one arm, Shield's shield on the other, Team's helmet ridges, Custom's huge backpack antennae) and gets stat increases equivalent to Wario's final smash.
Both of these are kind of lame, but none of the other thoughts I had really work at all.

An actually accurate Ness and/or Lucas, for once.  Seriously folks, no more Paula dressed like Ness.

Jeff, Pokey or Poo or somebody from the Mother series who isn't psychic for once.  Jeff could play like Snake, but bespectacledly.

A Giygas/Giegue assist trophy/stage would be this good:
so good.

If it could happen, a FFVI character of any sort would be nigh-metal.  Kefka or Gogo would be: victorious.  Speaking of Square, a nonMario/Peach/Bowser character from Super Mario RPG would also be quite rockin'.

I would fully endorse a playable Kamek, as well as a fleshed-out Dr. Wright.

We're not going to see the next Smash Bros. game until the next Nintendo console, which will hopefully wait a while on coming out, funfortunate as it may seem.

Gogo? I'd think he'd be an assist trophy or something. Like, he just stands there, and if someone hits him with something, he imitates it and hits them with the same attack. If he was a playable character, would he just randomly use other characters attacks?

Kefka couldn't be in the game, because he would just annihilate everything and make the game unfair. Although his Final Smash would be ridiculously cool... Transforming into
(http://www.ffcompendium.com/chara/6kefka-b2.jpg)
and Light of Judgement-ing the asses of everyone on the stage? Fuck yes.

I often thought of Giygas being a good real nemesis in Subspace Emissary. That said, the twist would of been Giygas being the subspace itself. (Thus the bombs to spread Giygas's power across the worlds.) The Master Hand would probably of been what little free will Giygas had remaining.
