Title: SERTek advice: Looking for hosting/webspace
Post by: Sofox on January 11, 2008, 04:46:27 PM
I thought I had a nice reliable chunk of webspace I could call my own, I was wrong.
It displays fine to the world, but if I want to change it or anything, I'm screwed. So I'm looking for some webspace that I can hold onto and use for years to come (at least 5). My requirements are: PHP support; SQL support; reliable service; nice people running it; low capacity, bandwidth, and cost to start with and then with the option to grow and expand as the years go on (or if I upload something that instantly becomes popular); a nice, easy to use interface (preferable, or at least something that is hassle free), good service, so on so forth.
Right now it's for a really stripped down webpage  (may host a comic in future), the convenience of having online storage, and for hyperlinking images, files etc. that I upload for others to see/download. Also, I've got two GoDaddy registered domains that may want to take advantage of the webspace (though one could stay where it is for the moment).
So, suggestions, comments, unpitying abuse?

I'm planning on renting a Static IP Address soon, and my website hasn't gotten over 200 MB yet, so if that happens, I should have a decent chunk of webspace (@ 75 GB).

I'll PM if I get it set up, but if you don't get a PM by Feb. 14th, it probably didn't work out.

Thanks Saga. That might be a good option. By the way, I forgot to mention, I may want to experiment with it, upload web services and applications, see how they run, experiment and modify etc. Probably nothing too technical, but I'd like to feel I can "stretch out" on the internet, try different things; that's why I want to make sure there's nothing basic missing and that there are a good range of options and things I can do.
Sorry if this sounds demanding, but it's what I'm aiming for.

I already plan on having the latest versions of PHP and MySQL.

If it ends up working out, I won't have a problem with it.

It won't be able to handle stuff like a WoW server, but I don't mind it as long as it is within reason.

If you do end up doing that, Saga, I'd be interested too. I've been in need of decent webspace for the longest time.

I was going to make a sticky for this in the Tech Support board once we got one, but I'll post this here for the time being.

My service plan currently has 180Gb (%6 used) +2Gb/week of storage and 4148Gb (0% used) +40Gb/week of bandwidth, and I can host unlimited domains. PM me with an FTP username and password if you're interested and I'll give you more details for whatever services you need.

How much you paying for that btw Spazz, I might be able to get you something a little better through my RO server guy =O Sofox, I can get you hosting pretty cheap as well.

Thanks Spazz and PC0. It's really good of you guys to make the offers. I'm not sure what route to take, so is it possible you guys could send me more details about the servers, how much, how long they'll go for, privaleges, services etc. so I can make an informed decision?

Really nice guys here, it's cheap and good:
www.hoststar.ch
I have my webspace there and never had any problems with them except for a hacker attack and they solved the problem really fast, even sent me a mail advising me to change passwords and stuff.
If you want PHP settings changed, send them an email, they'll do it. 10gb of webspace are way enough, unlimited bandwidth, 25 sql databases, unlimited email adresses etc.

You should check it out.
