General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:04:38 PM »
But really, Squish it's not ... changing shit. You wouldn't be limited in what you're doing. You'd just post. Everyday. Like you always do. All the time. There is nothing WRONG with that. YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT! You're one of the FEW PEOPLE who IS! It'd be nice to spread that love to everyone by bringing everyone together instead of doing this stupid segregation of "GD IS SERIOUS ROTOR IS FUNNY" just do "FORUM IS FOR DISCUSSION. HAVE FUN."

I'm not saying mimic other forums, I was just using the example that most places main forum is based around what that forum is about, then there is the ever more popular "General" forum for ANYTHING. Whether it be serious, funny, games, puzzles, whatever. But seeing as we have no "theme" for our "real" forum to follow, it just sits there. While Rotor (or the "real" GD) gets all the lovins.  So ... abolish one. Merge them. It doesn't matter. Either way it's not ... anything bad.

I'm just going to copy and paste this IM here real fast. Maybe it'll help:

HappyHappyistAJ: It's not really like anything would change. People still have too much of a "Moogle Cavern" mentallity, where if you post a picture in someone's topic that Overlord Kulock will reign his fiery wrath down upon you.
HappyHappyistAJ: ....
fancy drak: yeah
fancy drak: ..
HappyHappyistAJ: So it's like they are all "WHOOOAAHHH GD IS SERIOUS!" when it's not. there is nothing to be SERIOUS ABOUT.
HappyHappyistAJ: It's not DEVOTED TO ANYTHING haha.
fancy drak: Exactly
fancy drak: people just need to
fancy drak: fuckin'
fancy drak: talk
HappyHappyistAJ: Yeah.

... Okay why don't we try this another way. Why not abolish GD, move everything to Rotor, or just abolish BOTH and make a fresh new "HEY EVERYBODY POST HERE THIS IS WHERE YOU POST" section and be done with it. I mean again. There is no loss here. CHANGE IS NOT A BAD THING.

I too work at a convenience store. We have a drive through.

One day a man drove up to the drive through window and said something about his hair. My female coworker replied "What are you talking about, you're bald!" because, well... he was.

The man responded by telling us that "I'M BALD BECAUSE I BEEN RUBBIN MY HEAD ON TOO MANY VAGINAS."

He then offered to perform this service for my coworker.

he bought a beer and drove away

Um, I never worked retail, per se. Closest thing to it was my three day adventure at Sears. I didn't really do much besides walk into all the back rooms and stumble into like creepy horror scenes. They kept their manaquins hanging on hooks from the ceiling in a dark warehouse area.

I have AMAZING stories about other places I've worked though.

How would it "die further" NOTHING would change except for the fact that MORE people would probably post in the topics. There would be better access for EVERYONE. Hell if you want it to be fresh and not "GD" because apparently that comes with some sort of ill omen, combine them and name it "THIS IS WHERE WE BROS TALK".

Regardless, there is no way it would really HURT the community.

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:42:23 PM »
Ditto to what Magi said, too.

In Rotor, you can respond to something with a ridiculous image or a silly remark, and nobody really gets on you about it.

In GD, somebody tries to make a joke and they get shit for it.

You can relax in Rotor. B-)

Eh. Now PERSONALLY, I don't have a problem with that kind of post. Hell, I do it. But there shouldn't be a reason why you can't do it in GD. General Discussion doesn't mean serious business. It just means a place to TALK. Humor has every right to exist there. Obviously, this doesn't apply to if you're talking about like some great new thing or like "FUCK I KILLED SOMEONE WAHT DO I DO?!" and someone posts "duuur this topic is now about dicks :)" but THAT'S what moderators are for. You just gotta ... roll with it and figure out what not to weed, and if people become a problem doing it constantly in topics that don't need it then take action on that PERSON.

What I'm trying to say is there shouldn't be a problem with that, and if people view it as a problem, they need to stop taking shit so seriously. It's an internet community, not a business meeting at 5 star restaurant to discuss which of these 400 employees we have to let go and therefore ruin their lives.

Point is, we could CHANGE the atmosphere. Just because it's dull now doesn't mean it has to remain dull. How would it be any less dull if the two forums were merged? Your layout and background is still the same. All the topics you love to see are still there. But also some more. And the people from both "sides" can then enjoy both.

Because it's been made pretty clear that apparently everyone has segregated themselves to one board or another. WONDER WHY THE COMMUNITY IS DYING. maybecausethereisn'tacommunity.

But yeah. It might get people more involved if they have access to just ... everything (not saying they don't now, but people are suprisingly lazy, even in regards to the internet)

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:31:32 PM »
Well yeah my point is this forum isn't devoted to anything in particular so there's no reason General can't just be ... everything worth talking about and not  just videogames.

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:28:01 PM »
I just used hers as an example. There are other topics created by other people that are just fine for GD as well.

Also ... Uh, Squish. You could just put people you don't like on "Ignore" and be done with it.

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:13:16 PM »
I think you stated the problem though, most people don't go to the main forum! It is boring.

I think most of the silly topics are fine here, little games like the career thread and whatever. Heck we could just merge the two forums just fine. As long as the spammier threads don't clog things up.

Basically, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Just abolish Rotor and use GD soley (maybe some of the other forums as well, as aesthetically, they are quite ugly). I'm not saying "don't have fun" just ... do it all in one place so everyone can be together. You know, a COMMUNITY.  We'd just have to hope that people are old enough to either lay the "childish" posts to rest or go easy on them (IE Title: THIS TOPIC HAS GARBLED TEXT IN IT   Subject: FJDKLAFJKLIAJFKEJWKLAFJ). Ther'es nothing wrong with continuing the "game" posts though as people get general enjoyment from them.

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:09:17 PM »
I like Rotor. And usually don't actually expect people to respond to my threads. Like the one about careers for the previous poster didn't really seem like a discussion sort of topic and was more of a silly one.

GD tends to be "video games forum" and I don't care about that stuff.

A few of my threads might fit in GD, I guess. The retail one, after I posted, I thought maybe I shouldve put it in GD.

A lot of people don't seem to even go into GD. It's kind of boring and usually not very fun.

I dunno.

Sometimes you just wanna post some dumb thought in your head and don't expect much of a response. That's why I live in Rotor.

Well that's the point. GD could be more than just "Video Game" forum, and instead of ... g-general discussion. You know, like most of the topics you've posted in Rotor? If Rotor was abolished, then you could just post those topics in GD instead.

The thing is, there isn't anything WRONG with posting topics that might just be your thoughts at the time, because hell, a lot of times, that shit actually gets talked about. The thing is, if you notice, a lot of forums have like a "main" section dedicated to whatever the forum is based off of, and then "General Discussion" for everything else that's not on topic with the "main" forum. Whether it be people's lives, videogames, why you hate this or that food, your stance on this, getting people's opinions something you wrote. Whatever.

But having a forum dedicated souly to just ... "durcake" seems very heavily outdated. General Discussion is just that. General. It doesn't have to be on any SET thing. Just general things  want to "discuss" or talk  about.

I just feel that generally this whole board is stretched very thin. Like it was trying to do too much at one time. Now there are blogs that are practically never used, a lot of other forum subections that could all just be lumped into one large "THIS IS ARCHIVED BECAUSE PEOPLE STOPPED POSTING HERE" forum.

As for moving topics over to GD, it seems like a "decent" idea, however doens't seem necessary if people just ... used GD to actually discuss things.

General Rotors / Re: Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:28:20 PM »
Well, it could be remedied by deleting Rotor and any other useless board that is taking up space. I mean ... really. The idea of a forum devoted to "no rules go crazy!" is beyond the times now. Why? Because that was back when everyone were kids on the EZboard. When having a high post count made you one of the "cool" members. So a Fluff Forum existed so you could just post away! Topic after topic of garbage that generally didn't need to exist.

I mean, hell, is there even a reason for the BLOG section? Going a little off topic, but really, it's just as useless. All that ever does it pull away the ability to actually DISCUSS things in the GENERAL DISCUSSION forum. If you want a blog, there are PLENTY of places to have a blog, but why on some back water message board?

Let's face it. Everyone here is older now, and you would think ... maybe a little more mature. A forum where you can post topics like "PIES!" "CHEESE!" "CAKE!" and other one word things with literally ZERO subject is completely useless. If it honestly upsets ANYONE losing a forum soley devoted to that, then they were probably worth losing.

If you got rid of Rotor, then the people who primarily LOOK at Rotor would probably look at GD, as most of the topics there could just be moved over here. As in ... the decent ones were you can actually talk about everyday things. You know, like a message board community is supposed to do?

WELL! Tell your woman to get her shit together!

Just like that.

General Rotors / Here's a question
« on: June 18, 2009, 06:43:19 PM »
Why is it that most topics that are actually DISCUSSED and talked about are in the Rotor Forum and not in GD? Seems kind of pointless. I can see using Rotor for stupid shit like "i am wearing a white shirt", but ... A lot of topics that pop up are actually things that people hold "decent" conversations over. Sure they aren't over any particular like world views or current gaming industry things or anything of that matter. More or less it's like "HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS?" which still seems more like a "General Discussion" if you ask me.

... So yes. Why not ... discuss those topics in ... Oh I dunno .... General Discussion?

I cuss here and there, but a lot of times I replace it with more "innocent" things as well. Either that or make it somehow SOUND innocent.

I've never been able to cuss around my mom though. When one slips out, I feel incredibly dirty, like somehow I will be viewed in a negative light, even though I know she doesn't give a shit. OH WELL.

General Rotors / Re: Sooo, anybody else get Prototype?
« on: June 18, 2009, 12:26:53 AM »
I'll say Fallout 3 handled it PRETTY well, but a lot of missions were the same regardless of if you were good or evil (especially if you were trying to get a particular perk or item). Generally you don't do anything different and the last misson is the EXACT SAME except if you're evil you make one little change near the end of it. Other than that ... You still end up siding with the same people and fighting others.

I think when it came to good and evil in the sense of "minor" choices in the game, it worked out. But when it came down to the full story it was just the same as every other "evil or good" scenario. The thing is ... that whole "CHOOSE YOUR PATH. BE AN ANGEL OR A DEMON" is way over played. It's been done and run into the ground. I'm not saying it was always terrible, but some things just don't NEED it.

General Rotors / Re: Sooo, anybody else get Prototype?
« on: June 17, 2009, 11:01:15 AM »
Eh. You see, I'm GLAD there isn't a "Moral" system in this game. I feel it honestly really ruins the closure of stories. You're never sure which one is supposed to be cannon, and it's NEVER done properly. It's usually like one extreme or another. Either help this child get his balloon out of a tree, or murder his entire family instead.

It's a cheap ploy to make people play the game twice to see ever so slight differences in cut scenes.  If they did Moral RIGHT, the story would be DRASTICALLY different. You wouldn't do the SAME missions as a good character if you were evil. Or vice versa. Instead, if you were an evil character, you'd be right there with the main antagonist of the game plotting the downfall of the "hero". If you were the HERO you would be going against the main antagonist.

But instead, we get "Well, you're this guy. And you're going against these guys. You're going to be opposing them whether or not you're good or evil, because well .. good and evil really just effects the color of your clothes or skin. Maybe your powers will look a little darker too."

It's stupid.

Mm, finding the orbs isn't TOO bad. Granted, I always seem to have the same problem in sandbox collecting ... I'll get like 90% of them and will never be able to find the rest. Then I go "MAYBE I'LL USE A MAP!" and realize I have to go to EVERY LOCATION now because I have no clue where mine came from.

It would be nice if there was a way to like ... mark them on your map AFTER you got them. Something you could turn on and off in the legend so it wouldn't get too cluttered, of course.  I'm up to like 101 landmark tokens and I think like ... 22 "Hint" Orbs. (I love finding them after I beat the game just to get a message saying 'USE THE UPGRADES MENU TO GET NEW ABILITIES!')

... Yeah, how sad is it that because my internet was down last night I had to take a picture on my phone OF my computer to upload it to twitter to show that?

... So yeah. Progress !!

Granted, ya know ... not sure how much I actually like it yet. But hey. It's progress, right?

Yeah but let's just say you somehow fit into a 32 waist... The length makes NO sense. Because I'm WAY taller than you and my pants are either 32 x 32 or 32 x 30. So ... You must have ridiculously (and unnecessarily) baggy pants.

... I forgot how amazing that video is. Jesus. I mean ... the fact that they get like 30 famous people to do a cameo saying "Ghostbusters!" and ... Bill Murray laying down on the ground at four 30 year old men try to spin him in a circle is priceless. Why can't society be like it was in the 80s?
