Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
« on: January 10, 2008, 02:14:14 PM »
I'm not sure how well-known this is around these parts, but it's very easy to play Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst on a fan-server. Notably, www.schtserv.com should be able to get you hooked up. I know the MC PSO craze has long, long since passed us, but the perks of Schthack are many. The servers are actually monitored, and they ban anybody they catch cheating. A patch turns GameGuard off, which made the whole thing run a lot better before I got this computer.

Anyway, if anyone wants to join, let me know and I can assist in getting things set up. My character on it is named "Eileen".

Too lah loo rah!

Okay, you can download the game directly from Sega here:

http://psobb.com/downloads/client.php

And you can register here!

http://www.schtserv.com/register.php

Here're the rules...

http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME/index.php?showtopic=9336

And here's a detailed connection guide:

http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME/index.php?showtopic=25431

Let me know if you run into any problems! And be careful, when you first start playing PSO it can become quite an addiction for a while.

I'd play, but I recently started up PSU again, which has actually gotten a lot better since the expansion has been released. Unfortunately, it's not free.

I signed up for their fan server back when it first went public but since then not got pso:bb installed. When I get the chance to reinstall I might as well play again when I can.

I have university download limits and pso:bb would zap quite a lot of my monthly cash.

I used to play pso all the time but the hacking was too much to put up with. If that's not a problem in bb it should be a lot more fun thx for the links.

This is odd, considering another forum I visit just went "HAY GUYS, PSOBB ON SCTHACK"

Perhaps it's a sign.

Do you have Vista? 'cause I had that same problem, and there's a fix for it...

Same here, but they almost instantly ban anyone who tries to hack. The only mods allowed are the character mods, to make you look like Sonic, Tails, etc.

If you look on the forum for the server theres a link to a new exe specifically for vista.

Me, Masaki, Zid and Blighty were playing this ages but we stopped a few weeks ago over christmas and havent gotten back into it again.

STEP 6: (for Vista users only)

Consider this the last step, which must be completed if you're a Vista user.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/dwd86j - v.1.24.3 US
http://www.sendspace.com/file/86c6va - v.1.24.15 JP

This file is necessary because using it to run the game will allow you to type properly on Vista, without changing your language and keyboard settings (and dealing with the ballooned font size as a result of said changes).

Download one or the other as appropriate, depending on if you're sticking with the US client, or using the JP patch. Put the .exe into the main PSOBB folder, and use it to run the game from then on, while using the replaced online.exe for updates and messing with options.

And, don't panic if an antivirus says the file is a trojan.

Tried that?

Okay, I'm in the process of doing all the steps and stuff, but I'm stuck on Step #3. I'm able to find and open up the hosts file in Notepad, but when I try and save it, windows freaks out and says "this directory does not exist blah blah blah" BUT IT DOES and it opens the exact directory after I click OK. When I click 'save' when that window pops up, it says that I need administrator access or whatever to save in that directory. So, I went to my admin account and tried... said the same thing.
(btw, I'm on Vista)

help ;_;

EDIT: grr... nevermind, fixed my problem

Is it supposed to take absolutely forever when you get to the lobby (before ship selection or whatever)?
I waited about a minute before I got out of it

EDIT: blah blah blah :| it's working now

Ah...
after thinking it over for awhile, I've decided that I might as well get in on this. I loved playing PSO back in the day, and I currently have quite a bit of free time, so why not?

I haven't joined yet (the download's not quite complete), but when I do, I'll probably be under the name of "SoNick" or "Trunks."
The character's a male HUmar with purple hair in the hairstyle that the second name hints at, with armor that ranges from green to black, depending on what seemed like a good idea at the time of character creation.

I set all this jazz up the first time I read this topic and then completely failed to follow through because I tried playing purely on the keyboard and it sucked. Gamepad to the rescue! I'm "Blackavar(space)", a HUcast, Black and Yellow variety with the 'samurai' heard. I've only a few levels on me though.

I don't know; playing with the keyboard isn't bad once you get used to it.
That being said, if I had a Dreamcast-USB converter I'd dig out one of my old DC controllers and use that in an instant!

In any case, here's my character:

lolzlowlevelsucks

You can usually catch me on Horizon Block 1, but when playing with my little brother sometimes I'll hop on to Oceanica Block 1.

Go to customize, as you would for setting things to the action palette, then choose one of the spots on the palette (it doesn't matter which one), and on the list of techniques/attacks/items, press the number assigned to the technique/attack/item.
From there, you can assign as many as you want; hitting cancel or selecting something for the spot on the action palette will exit this screen and keep the number key bindings that you have set.
