Sonic Unleashed

What's this? Another possible Sonic the Hedgehog game from Sega? You don't say! Sonic Unleashed is the newest filing from the Japanese publisher, one that applies to "video game software [and] computer game programs." Yes, those are the entirety of the details. We just hope it's far, far better than the shittacular Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games known simply as Sonic the Hedgehog.

My theory?

The one real suggestion I've heard so far between whine fests over Sega having the horrible presumption to make a new Sonic game is "compilation", which could work, but would be odd in this Virtual Console era. There's also Sonic the Hedgehog High Speed for XBLA, the remake which never appeared. We just got a Genesis emulator instead.

UNLEASHED!!!

I predict pain.

(but who knows. Maybe Sega has learned that with their current talent, 2D is a better bet than 3D? ...nah.)

Oh man, a new Sonic game, I sure hope this'll be good.

Man, this game seems to be shaping up nicely. Maybe this will bring Sonic back to his former glory.

Oh wait, it sucks, move along.

Judging by the bugs, unruly camera, and at times questionable controls of the past few 3D games, I wasn't aware that Sonic was 'leashed' in the first place.

It sounds too dumb to be a new Sonic game (Or does it?) It must be Sonic 1 HD Remix...

Ouch. I know everyone takes turns beating on Sonic 360/PS3 over the unfinished product that it is and I won't contest that, but come on. Imagine for a moment if you will that the game was finished. I consider it a beta product right now as it is. Hell for starters let's say the controls worked right and the insta-fucked moments were gone. Would you at the least call it mediocre? I still think the game was a nice idea... it was just carried the wrong end up, dropped on it's head and then stomped on. Really hard.

I hope if this is a new 3D Sonic game that they have the decency to include a responsive control set, correct collision detection, and a more open ended way of completing the levels. By this I mean different routes to start and finish that work right. Maybe a wall I have to spindash through at a hidden point under the main path that'll shave a few seconds off my time that no body knows about expect me and the internet. Perhaps a better camera that would be nice. One that I could take control of if I wanted to mind you... I'm not getting my hopes up though. When I typed these requests I actually thought I was making a suggestion for a FPS. Ironically recent 3D Sonic's suffer from these same problems... but the real shame is that these are basic physics for an action platformer and are much simpler. All Sonic has to do is move and jump, maybe spindash and roll. Homing attacks if you want to be fancy. But if you're epically failing at the basics, you should try and master those first before you try and get fancy.

Here's hoping Sega.

Oh, my word. A title for a new Sonic game you say? Well, before any screenshots, announcements, demos, trailers or even before we know what the slightest idea what the bloody hell it is, let us bash the JOLLY HELL OUT OF IT!

I mean, seriously. This is a repeat of the Sonic Rush Adventure announcement and everyone seems to like that game.

The name is dumb. That's all I can really say. :P

It brings to mind all sorts of faux-hardcore imagry that when combined with the Sonic franchise makes me shudder in a bad way.

Sonic Unleashed sound better than Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood.

Or Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Or Sonic Rush Adventure.

But maybe that's just me.

Sounds like a good fan game

I'm looking forward to the painful repeat of the 2006 Sonic game tho :P

LOOK AT THIS, OPEN ENVIRONMENTS AND SUPER SONIC! 360 CAPABILITIES!
And then, a Rep on the demo,
"So you can make Silver j- whoops. Haha! *5th falling death*"

I know that, but it didn't have this line:

But when fans wail and gnash their teeth about the GBA and DS games, or complain about Sonic's appearance in Smash Bros. Brawl, or say that the Genesis games retroactively suck thanks to Sonic Riders, one begins to wonder why they call themselves fans.

and seeing that there wasn't any announcement that this game was being outsourced to a AAA company we can only assume that it is being done by Sonic Team themselves and wonder how lowLAAAAAAME can they go!

Totally serial, man!

Let's make wild guesses as to what this game'll be like.

I think it'll be a standard 3-D Sonic game for the Wii. Just as awful as the 360 game, but they'll assume because it's on the Wii, this time it won't be a financial failure.

^That's because it will take the developers less than ten months to "finish it" and it will be released late fall of this year.

I think it will be a hack of Super Mario Galaxy with Sonic as the main character.

I'm pretty sure that's already a bootleg widely spread throughout Brazil under the title Sonic Galaxy Adventure 8.
