Let's hope that this time the flavor supports the concept!

I mean, I didn't mind Secret Rings because the entire game was flavoured very appropriately, to the point where Sonic was being fast with flavor-specific abilities-- I didn't mind that. If he's somehow hopped to fantasy medieval times, this'll sit right with me as well, though the mechanics would have to be pretty speedy to catch my gameplay interest...

Have they looked at my terrible fanart of medieval Sonic and Shadow I did once?
But as mentioned before, could they just make an entirely seperate title for this stuff. You aren't called Sonic Team because you have to make Sonic games.

Uh....what? Is he a secret character in the Castlevania game? Is he? Because it would be pretty ridiculous otherwise.

Then again, its probably the actual sequel to the Secret Rings, which I didnt expect at all...then again, who expects what Sega is doing anymore?

Edit: Remember Sonic, the best use of that weapon is down the highway, not across the street.

First response: I don't get it anymore (eerily close to Ila)
I mean I don't get it, have Sega decided that it's impossible to make a Sonic game that doesn't purely and only rely on gameplay inspired by the original Megadrive titles?

Thinking a moment about it, now I realize they may be doing this for the MotionPlus announced at E3.

Still, this is almost sickeningly looking like Sega's determination to implement in Not-Sonic gimmicks to Sonic without the use of other characters. As a way of curving around fan's desire for no additional characters - just the blue hedgehog.

Quote from: Simon Jeffery
"We are actually undergoing a fairly considerable refresh of Sonic as an intellectual property, as a character," said Jeffery.

And what this means for Sonic and friends is a break. "We're not going to be bringing another game out on the other platforms for quite some time, because we feel that it is time to reinvent Sonic, to make Sonic contemporary again.

Vacation cancelled?

If it wasn't clear Sonic games are now designed by primary school focus groups with the "just copy God of War!!!" footage, then I think this just about wraps it up.

My guess is that Sonic is reading a book and the lady of the lake appears and gives him the sword, Excalibur.

His legend starts in the 12th century.

I'm not understanding why Sega is releasing so many Sonic games so close to each other. Shouldn't people get hyped up for Unleashed before this game? Also, which team is created this game, and is this going to end up like the same situation with Sonic 2K6 vs Secret Rings only with Unleashed?

Didn't SEGA say once that Sonic would never use weapons?

That was Yuji Naka, I think, and he's not with SEGA anymore.  Remember SEGA owns Sonic and if their suits in marketing think that Sonic armed with a sword would bring in big bucks, then SEGA is gonna want Sonic to swing a sword around like Blade in a room full of undead.

Frankly, after the godawful disaster that was Sonic2K6, nothing SEGA does can really surprise me.  They released a game that wasn't even close to ready to be put out on the market.  It's pretty clear they're letting their marketing division run the show.

A sword fighting game on the Wii = :D

Starring Sonic the Hedgehog = :|

How come nobody has scanned in the inside contents of the magazine? And how come that dude's name and address are clearly visible?

SONIC & THE VERY RANDOM THING.

People thought this was going to be Kingdom Hearts. Part of the clue Nintendo Power used matched perfectly to one of Mickey's ears in Kingdom Hearts art, but I guess they thought it was close enough to the Sonic 2D style.

Wow. This could be the sequel to Secret Rings, but I wouldn't have expected that when Unleashed is treading so close to that ground, and Sonic just brandishing a giant sword anyway... Odd that this wasn't revealed at E3 either.

The one positive note is that that pose (particularly about the spines) is very Sonic CD anime ish.  Less the Big Ass Sword, of course.
