Nah, the information is outdatedby the time it hits the stands,

Some magazines don't care so much about outdated information..? Not every magazine covers rapidly-growing fields like electronics/computers, etc.

That's a fair point, but most do. In any case, the real question is whether there's any inherent advantage in print. At the rate things are going, when everybody has a web browser in their pocket, the answer would seem to be a resounding 'no'.

I think for print to survive in the gaming media, the magazines have to do something resoundingly different from online.  They need to get world exclusives and they need to protect them like the plague.  But by the same token, the long form story needs to be reinvented by them.  It can't just be reviews and previews anymore.  It needs to be something different, and it may need to be something that doesn't suck up to gaming companies so much, like what has been happening in print (and, arguably, a lot of other places in gaming news) for a long time.  I know that sounds contradictory, but print needs to go gangbusters with all types of new and various content, and bring in new readers.

I know that all sounds weird and contradictory, but trying something different is the only way a lot of print media may survive in the Internet age.

I don't think I would buy a magazine of any kind anymore. The kind of transient newsy information they contain is much better accessed via the internet. The only things I want in print are extremely transient things like newspapers or permanent things I collect and admire like books. Magazines sit in the middle there, and the internet took that middle bit over.
Visit Soaringrabbit.com, home of Soaring Rabbit, a Keio Flying Squadron fansite, Rampaging Feline, which is all about Di Gi Charat, Bombastic Bunny, my blog about technology and stuff, or maybe even Bittersweet Candy Bowl, Veronica's wonderful comic.

Looks like Retronauts has gone from "Worst 1up Podcast" to the "Only 1up Podcast" Its probably safe to say that one wont be going away anytime soon. Call me surprised. Definitely.
