I think for print to survive in the gaming media, the magazines have to do something resoundingly different from online. They need to get world exclusives and they need to protect them like the plague. But by the same token, the long form story needs to be reinvented by them. It can't just be reviews and previews anymore. It needs to be something different, and it may need to be something that doesn't suck up to gaming companies so much, like what has been happening in print (and, arguably, a lot of other places in gaming news) for a long time. I know that sounds contradictory, but print needs to go gangbusters with all types of new and various content, and bring in new readers.
I know that all sounds weird and contradictory, but trying something different is the only way a lot of print media may survive in the Internet age.
