Lunar: Silver Star Remake Coming to PSP!

Revealed via early release of this week's Famitsu magazine, "LUNAR: Harmony of Silver Star" for PSP aims to keep the feel of the 1992 Sega CD original and 1996 Saturn/PSone remakes, but completely revamps the graphics and interface to bring them in line with 21st century standards. The view is now isometric, with lush hand-drawn backgrounds and characters. Publisher Gungho promises new events, remastered music, and an expanded backstory.

Best of all, perhaps, the PSP Lunar remake isn't outsourced: Famitsu identifies the developer as Game Arts themselves.

Too bad we won't get a stellar Working Designs localization of the game. Anyway I'm apprehensive, since I really think the PS1 remakes were the definitive versions of the series.

oh i dunno. don't get me wrong, SSSC was fantastic. but there's still a lot they can do with just that, expanded story being one aspect. honestly? this is the closest we'll see to a series revival and frankly im quite surprised lunar is getting any love after dragon dong

Actually, I wouldnt be surprised if Gaijin Works, a.k.a. Victor Ireland got his mits on it. Then it would be Working Designs on Lunar, again.

This is a very good thing.

I have the second game, but never finished more than an hour or so of gameplay.

Word. Mine got stolen a couple months back, almost two weeks after I spent the dough on a 4 gig Pro Duo.
Fucking hell.

The sprites are kind of odd in places, especially Alex. Oh well, at least Ramsus's is actually wearing glasses for once.

I've rented the Sega CD version, own the PS1 remake, and wisely skip the GBA port. Will I buy, and play a third remake of this title provided it will be released in English?

Hmm...maybe...

Wait, why would Game Arts put all there effort on a remake instead of using their precious time to create a new entry in this series? They could have done this with Dragon Song, instead of outsourcing it to some C-grade team.

I think after Dragon Song, no one wants to try a new Lunar. Even if I knew that Game Arts put all their love and care into an new Lunar, I'd still be skeptical.

Awesome. I look forward to this with much enthusiasm. I still wish Dragon Force 2 would get localized and the rest of the Y's series on PS2( By the time this happens we would have gotten Dark Stalkers 4).

I think you meant to say that the Y's series should get localization for the PC...wait Game Arts has nothing to do with Y's.

Aaaaaaaand XSeed delivers!  ;D

Quote
Torrance, Calif., (May 29, 2009)—XSEED Games today announced that Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and Half-Minute Hero, both for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system, are currently in development and will be among the company’s E3 2009 lineup. XSEED Games will showcase titles for the PSP as well as both Nintendo platforms, the Nintendo DS™ and Wii™, at E3 2009 which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 2nd-4th.

“This is going to be an especially exciting showcase for XSEED Games as we just announced new titles that represent what our fans have been asking for,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “We are especially excited to be releasing them in the North American market and look forward to supporting our growing fan base”.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony PSP

While everything is calm on the surface, the world of Lunar is slowly devolving into chaos. The legendary Dragonmaster Dyne and his faithful companions have faded into obscurity only to have a shadowy figure known as the Magic Emperor begin to wreak havoc on the world created by the Goddess Althena. Meanwhile, in a small, humble village far removed from the turmoil in Lunar, lives a young man named Alex. As one who idolizes the legendary Dyne, Alex dreams of one day becoming the next Dragonmaster and matching the accomplishments of his life-long hero. Egged on by his childhood friend Ramus and with his adopted sister Luna in tow, Alex heads off on what seems to be a meaningless adventure, unaware that it would be the first step in an epic journey with the fate of the entire world at stake.

Since it debuted over a decade ago, Lunar: Silver Star Story has continuously captivated fans with its timeless tale of love, betrayal and redemption, expertly woven into its involving gameplay and cinematic presentation. The classic masterpiece has now been reborn on the PSP as Lunar: Silver Star Harmony with all new graphics, added gameplay features, and a re-mastered soundtrack so a whole new generation of fans can experience this legendary first entry of the Lunar universe, while added story elements are sure to intrigue returning fans alike. This title is being developed by Game Arts and is scheduled to be released Fall 2009 exclusively for the PSP.
