(about lulz)
I don't think it's so severely destroyed that the original usage has been abandoned. It's still prevalent on ED.

a.k.a. only trolls and douchebags use it in the "correct" way

I don't mind what 'lulz' stands for, but the word itself is horrid.

That's the impression I got.

insert "insert ___ here" here.

ALSO you know this site is good language catharsis. But it's kinda asinine an flat. It needs some kind of twist or counter-play at the end. A conclusion or admission or anything to make the site more substantial than just whining. Otherwise I get the vibe that most of the people who are going to be laughing at this won't figure that they're also the primary offenders.

I really should lay off the word 'vibe'.

I feel like the site's purpose is to satisfy people like me who might otherwise refrain from criticising a person for their language because they cannot be bothered to answer the follow-up "Why shouldn't I say ____" question. In turn, the site allows the person criticised to be aware that certain language snobs are upset with them, perhaps altering their future behaviour in a subtle way, perhaps not. I think that's the most anyone can achieve, so the site's ambit is limited to a kind of individual reprimand. Would you suggest I can and should aim for more?

Well, you certainly killed all sense of pretentiousness over the ability to police the Internet with your last post, there. =P
Let me say that I support the idea for this website, even if I might not agree with each and every individual article.

(EDIT: Yeah, because you really needed my blessing for this, right? Haha. Nah, I know what my post sounds like. But I'm just saying.)

Simple response for everything:  Because you're a fag/That is a very faggy sentiment.

I know that's faggy into itself but it's my foolproof method.  Possibly because that's the extent of my caring I guess.

I just realized that THAT WAS EPIC!! THAT WAS EPIC FOR THE WIIIIIIIIIIIIN isn't linked to in the article anymore.

Was the video taken down from Youtube, or was it an intentional decision for one reason or another?

Maybe it should be on both. That'd be pretty severe though.

W00t and All Your Base should be there too. Though I doubt people use those phrases anymore.

I love the site design. It's simple and direct but not too spartan. The typefaces are cool (Gotham must be the best one ever), and the newsletter-like use of font size and italics works well.

Thanks. I was pretty proud of how the design turned out. I'm still not sure about the list pages, though. I think eventually I'll style the dontru.in one with the purple scheme, but beyond that I'm a little dissatisfied with how plain the lists look.

I take great offense to this website.

Are you trying to tell me "OVER 9000" was ever funny?

Sure, it was funny. The Youtube video still is very funny.

Also, just so everyone knows, I did some tidying up of the prose and feel a little bit prouder of the site. I didn't get enough time to write up more pages though, sorry. I'm quite disappointed that nobody here picked up on some of the poor wording and grammar I was using, even though a few people read the whole thing, apparently?

two things:

1. weegee needs a dontru.in page now because I still absolutely love the original Mario is Missing intro and ending videos with him. Especially when he hugs the even creepier Mario.
2. lulz is officially ruined

While the video's use of "lulz" made me shudder, that was actually a fairly coherent explanation of the whole Weegee thing. And the end made me "hehe".

I'M GOING TO WRITE IT I FORGOT TO SAY THAT PART

sorry for seeming like a cunt :(

But hey now thanks to this wonderful and highly educational video featuring a hot girl who probably has no idea what ANYTHING she said means and is just reading a script given to her by some horrible neckbeard, you DO know everything about Weegee!!

Hm. When it comes to the whole "Good sir/chap/chum" or whatever, I'd say it might be worth it more to move it to the "Don't Ruin" category as opposed to the stop saying.

It almost seems a little too much for that to be in the same bile as "O RLY?" and "Mudkips." Probably still have some decent potential if it's not overly done. Which, seeing as they aren't exactly being said by everyone in everything they say, it wouldn't seem like too much of a problem.

I think you might be one of the people that overuses it. I disagree that it's something that shouldn't be ruined, it isn't funny enough to save.

I should also take some time here to say that I'm saddened that there's less to put in the "don't ruin" category, and I'm generally pressured to move things from don't ruin to stop saying. I feel like the idea of trying to save certain words is a more important function of the site. More high-minded, maybe. Declaring that people should stop saying stupid phrases is somewhat cathartic and entertaining, but identifying the useful and funny memes that have been created and subsequently seeking to defend them is a more useful task to undertake.

Haha. Well, I don't use it to be "funny" and never really did. It just worked its way into normal vocabulary by being around Ty so much.

Out of curiousity, what would justify this as being a "meme?" I can think only a handful of people who use it, which would be like ... Ty, myself, and maybe one other person. Unless of course it's being spewed all over 4Chan, in which case, that might leave a more putrid taste in my mouth.
