Yeah, making Lara weak and wimpy is totally less sexist than giving her big boobies.

Oh wait no it's not and this game is misogynistic filth and is devaluing one of, if not the, most famous female video game character.

Is there some sort of non-faggy way to start an effective campaign shunning this game? Or do I have to just hope it hope it fails financially as bad as Metroid: Other M did?

This is like a Duke Nukem origin story where Duke is a total pussy for the entire game, but it's taken all seriously and tries to be grimdark.

I actually bothered to watch the trailer. Granted, I've only played the first game, which seemed like the closest thing to a good Indiana Jones game we'll probably ever get (though with the added bonus of boobs), but this seems more like a devolution of the character into further negative stereotypes than her just being a sex icon. It's like the people in charge were played Uncharted and were like "Hey, I like this game. What if we turned Lara Croft into the annoying blonde chick you have to drag around with you everywhere that contributes very little?"

To be fair, the reason that they're having her get so beaten up is that this is a reboot chronicling her first adventure. Hence, lack of experience translates to THE WILDERNESS AND EVERYTHING IN IT WILL FUCK YOU UP BITCH.

If this was a video game about Indiana Jones's first adventure, do you think it would be designed to inspire feelings of "this guy needs my protection"? Fuck no. He'd be a daring hero who's just not all that great at daring heroics yet. Assuming they weakened him even that much.

But Lara Croft has a vagina, so that's different! Girls have to justify being badass by having some defining experience that hardened them and made them not a fifties television housewife. Preferably that defining experience should involve sexual assault because that's always fun.

I think the ideas they have are sound in concept but when the developers talk about why they're doing them and what emotions they want to evoke it sounds really creepy and weird

If they hadn't said anything I probably would've thought it was more interesting

After watching the trailer, I am left wondering why the fuck nature is so bent on beating the ever-loving fuck out of her. It seemed a bit overkill. Her redesign is ok, but holy FUCK did someone enjoy the whole malicious ass whipping thing way too much.

This actually makes me feel sorry I wrote a rape scene in a book I'm working on, even though it is only to show the depravity of the villain and not the weaknesses of the lead.

If I want to protect someone, she isn't a badass.... A shame, I was looking forward to playing this, looks like I'll give it a miss. We aren't going to get strong female protagonists until people get over the idea that "rape is something that happens to women", and we retire the idea of Women In Refrigerators while we're at it.

I've never found Lara Croft or the Tomb Raider series in any way fun or interesting, but at the same time, I do think it is kind of ridiculous that there has to be a rape scene involved. Can't be a tough woman unless you were raped or almost raped. Can't just be a tough woman, gotta go through some sort of problem. Never is it just in your personality normally.

In the novel I was talking about, that's exactly what happened, before she was raped she was tough, after she was raped she's tough, but now has killed someone. (It had more to do with being murdered than raped... the guy in my book figured "Hey, while I'm killing you")
