you'd think they would have changed the vases into pipes.

Am I right?

But they don't function like pipes. You usually go inside a vase and there's just a single room in there. It does not transport you to different areas.

The vase transports you to

uh

inside of the vase.

Check and mate.

So if they changed it to a pipe, would it transport you to

uh

a cistern?

(This list is incomplete)

So they act like many of the pipes in Yoshi's Island, is what you're saying, Blaze.

I know pipes didn't really act like that at the time, but it's definitely something that could have been accepted, and later on was.

I suppose the "warp" jars were definitely pipe-like in that sense... the interiors of the non-warp jars weren't very pipe-like, though. It seems like just something that wasn't particularly thought of at the time. But now I'm kind of interested how much further you could Mario-ize the old game.

They could have turned Wart into King Koopa.

That might only make sense retroactively though, because Bowser wasn't even a recurring villain at the time.

Turn those logs into long mushroom caps.

Eh, this game was substituting Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan, which was essentially a hardcore version of the first iteration (and who didn't want THAT, huh?), and Bowser was still in that one, in all fake and real forms. So I think they generally had the idea they wanted Bowser as the villain. But it's hard to say.

In any case, this has sort of made me interested in seeing some hacker juice up Super Mario Bros. 2 to make it "more Mario like."
